The House of Isaac and Maria
The Loewens of Manitoba, Chihuahua and Beyond
Edited by Royden Loewen and Arden Dueck
This is a history of the Isaac and Maria Loewen family. They are a far-flung family but belong to a common ‘house.’ Isaac and Maria were born in the 1890s on farms in southeastern Manitoba. In 1952, with most of their family, they relocated to Chihuahua. In time their 7 children, 50 grandchildren and 100s of greatgrandchildren came to be scattered across Canada, Mexico and the United States. Yet strong family bonds endured, resulting in the publication of this book in 2025. Here is a collection of stories of love and kindness within a diverse family. These narratives point to the courage and faith of a Mennonite couple navigating a tumultuous time of change.
